Early Literacy/Reading Program Specialist Long Beach Public Library
Participants will learn translation methodologies to produce original translations of songs, rhymes and fingerplays for bilingual storytime. This session will cover how to translate vocabulary, how to translate to maintain rhyme and rhythm, as well as how to use poetic license and infuse elements of Latinx cultural heritage to create songs and rhymes that are engaging, dynamic, and foster early literacy skills.
In the final part of this presentation, participants and the presenter will apply the methods presented to produce original translations as a group. For optimal learning and participation, attendees should have a basic grasp of storytime and Spanish.
