Library Assistant / Passport Program Manager Sacramento County Public Law Library
In 2018 our library successfully applied to become a Passport Acceptance Facility. In the first 2 years after opening, we were making some money, but the impact on staff due to poor implementation was significant. Then COVID closed our program and forced us to reevaluate whether we wanted to continue and how to make it work better for both the library and staff - especially in our new uncertain times. After lots of planning, asking staff what they wanted and how they wanted to do it, we reopened in February 2022 and have been completely booked since day one. In the first 6 months we made more than we had in the previous 2 years we were open. We've laid out our failures and successes to share with other libraries looking for another revenue stream.
