Mobile Services Supervisor Sacramento Public Library
Sacramento Public Library took delivery of its first all-electric bookmobile in November 2022. This session will highlight the good and the bad, the highs and lows, and the benefits and challenges of going electric to bring basic library services to the community. The project started in the summer of 2020 with a Shared Vision grant through the California State Library. The pandemic elongated the process but also gave our Mobile Services team more time to prepare for the transition, both physically (new vehicles!) and emotionally (switching from well-known, yet broken vehicles to vehicles that rely on a different energy source). With many libraries looking to expand their outreach options, this conversation can give insight as to whether going all-electric is right for you. We will focus on how we strategically expand route development, enhance the charging infrastructure, develop unique programming, and made this project into a true community event.
