Library Associate County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries
Through an LSTA grant from the CA State Library, Shandon Library, a branch of the County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries, established a Tool Lending Library to offer patrons local access to lithium-ion battery powered power and gardening tools to support creativity, home projects and job development. By developing a tool lending library in the town of Shandon, gas costs and gas emissions were reduced by diminishing the need to make 40-mile round trip visits to the nearest hardware store. Activities including workshops to introduce and familiarize patrons with tool usage and maintenance, and a Community Reading Garden event that welcomed community members to use their new tool collection to build a garden for reading and growing food connected the community to their new library.
