SFS Grows is a gardening and sustainability program that consist of a learning portion followed by an activity that supplements the information provided. Our demographic is Developmentally Disabled Adults and our teaching portion is designed for all disabilities and ranges of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each workshop has a different topic followed by an activity and maintenance of a garden, including planting vegetables and native plants, to inform this population of gardening and sustainability. The drought-tolerant garden that our members have created has served as a model of sustainability, demonstrating how efficient and visually appealing these gardens can be. We kept our demographics' varied physical and mental health in mind; during our design process we chose materials and resources that support their needs including garden kneelers and easy to use tools. We want all participants to be engaged, active members of the community in a safe space that encourages educational and social growth.
